Lara Orlandic is a scientist and research assistant at the prestigious École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Lausanne, Switzerland. While at Uni High, she participated in many clubs and activities, including Habitat for Humanity, WILL Oral History Project, and the Gargoyle. She also conducted bioengineering research at the University of Illinois, where she created hundreds of microfluidic devices for the electrical enumeration of T helper cells, trained four students in the lab, conducted a variety of experiments, and contributed to two publications.

Upon her graduation in 2014, Orlandic pursued a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology which she completed in 2019. While attending Georgia Tech, she developed a mobile application that displays a patient’s arterial pressure waveforms and signal strength data in conjunction with a CardioMEMS HF Interrogator-2 (I2) device. She also served as a Research Assistant in which she developed non-invasive and inexpensive techniques of 24-hour ambulatory heart failure monitoring through extensive experimentation with ballistocardiography and photoplethysmography.

Presently, she is a research assistant at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) which she graduated with a Master’s in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2021. She has nine publications and 78 citations, and she co-authored a study on cough analysis as an infection diagnosis (entitled COUGHVID) which contributed significantly to the fight against COVID-19. She has received several awards including the ECE Outstanding Electrical Engineering Senior Award, the ECE Outstanding Service and Outreach Award, the President's Undergraduate Research Award, the WeTech Juniper Networks Scholarship for Women in STEM, and the Genius Award during her time at Georgia Tech. She also received Uni High’s June Mank Award, which celebrates students that emulate the late June Mank’s model of support and service.
