Column: Goodbye, Mr. Blagojevich

Dear Mr. Blagojevich: You have been my source of entertainment in my most bored moments. You have kept me awake and even smiling a bit in the most boring moments of my day. For that I give you a meek smile, and owe you a minuscule amount of gratitude. Sincerely, Erika Belmont.

Column: Blago, Burris, and the fine art of subtlety

Viewers of Tuesday's inauguration might have noticed a glaring absence: Gov. Rod Blagojevich. He opted to stay away from D.C. as his presence would be a "distraction." Katy Metcalf wonders: What's up with Illinois politicians? There always seems to be a Blago — or a Burris, who has his own problems, as Katy explains.

I'm only minutely corrupted

“The governor of New York has been linked to a prostitution ring.” Something about that phrase just seems not right. Maybe it’s the words “governor” and “prostitution” in the same sentence.

Either way, when I heard that phrase, my first reaction was to laugh. Oh yes, another sleazy politician caught red-handed just like they always are. They deserved it.

Who's voting?

I am particularly excited about the upcoming presidential elections. Tracking the results from the Iowa caucuses to the New Hampshire primaries has almost been better than keeping up with college football with the hype and controversy that the candidates bring to the race.
