Subbies to State: Six runners advance to championship

Six members of the subbie girls' track team will be continuing to the IESA state championship, after placing second at sectionals as a team. The championship takes place on May 10 and 11 at Eastside Centre in East Peoria.

Boys swimming: Four boys place 6th at sectionals despite lack of team

Although Uni High has a girls team, it has not fielded a boys team in many years. However, four Uni students did not let this stop them as they competed at IHSA Sectionals on Febuary 16. Junior Vinay Shanbhag, sophomore Robert Bernhardt, and freshmen Ben Schiffer and Dong-Ha Son competed in two individual events apiece and two relays and ended up placing 6th out of 17 teams at the sectional meet held at Centennial High School.

Boys soccer advances to sectional final after 2-1 victory over Manteno

The Uni boys soccer team beat Manteno 2-1 in overtime at the sectional semifinal, and will advance to the sectional final at Danville Schlarman High School on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.

Girls basketball: Record setting season ends Thursday

The Uni High girls basketball team lost last night 65-48 to Leroy, a team ranked 3rd in the state. A win would have made them sectional champions and advance them to supersectionals.

Regional champions: Uni girls basketball moves on

The Uni High girls basketball team defeated Armstrong-Potomac 49-44 on Thursday night. The win made the Illineks regional champions. This is the first time a Uni girls basketball team has been regional champions since 1986.

Out with a splash: Girls swimming ends the season strong

Placing fifth at sectionals and sending senior Milee Nelson to state, the Uni High girls swim team had strong individual performances, including three second place finishes and several more swimmers who placed in the top 10.

Another strong and competitive season for the Uni High cross-country teams ended at sectionals last Saturday. Despite the loss of several key seniors, the team looks forward to another great season next year.

Boys track: Welcome to the postseason

The Uni boys head to Monticello today to compete in the Class 1A track sectional meet. Despite several injuries, the Illineks look to do well, with senior Malcolm Taylor (defending state runner-up in the 400), sophomore Albert Anastasio, senior Isaac Chambers, and the 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams all having a shot at advancing.
