Boys soccer: Dan Lilly repeats as News-Gazette all-area first-team selection

The News-Gazette released its all-area selections this week, and senior Dan Lilly was again named to the first team while freshman Tarik Koric made second team. Senior Nile Hamer, senior Neil Pearson, and freshman Patrick Wong received honorable mentions.

Boys soccer: Meet the Fresh Five

Freshman Patrick Wong and four of his classmates have provided a spark to Uni soccer this fall. Whether it's Wong's goal-scoring, Tarik Koric's playmaking, Freddie Stavins' defense, or Paul Seeley and Alex Mestre's energy off the bench, these fabulous frosh have meshed well with veterans like Dan Lilly to make the Illineks a serious threat in the Class 1A postseason.

Last week was a busy stretch for boys soccer, girls swimming, and girls volleyball. On the soccer field, the Illineks proved their recent tie with Champaign Central was no fluke, turning in three strong performances. The swim team kept progressing against top competition, while the volleyball team had a very successful week, ending with a repeat victory as Crusader Invitational champs.

The highlight of the week came Thursday as boys soccer put a scare into Champaign Central, taking a 1-0 lead and holding on for a 1-1 tie. The cross country teams turned in fine showings at two meets. The swimming team chalked up a victory, while the volleyball team played tough against a Decatur Lutheran powerhouse.

Boys soccer: Illineks come up huge tying Class 2A Central

The Illineks had a huge game Thursday night against the Champaign Central Maroons under the lights at the U of I Turf Fields. Both teams fought hard to try and win. In 2006, Uni upset the local balance of power by beating Central for the first time, 2-1. How would this year's Illinek team fare? Here are the details to this great game.

Boys soccer: 64 and counting! Dan Lilly breaks Uni career goal-scoring record

As one of the area's best players, Dan Lilly has scored 64 goals so far in his four years, eclipsing previous Uni record holder Tyson Masar, who scored 62 from 1997 to 2000. With at least a month left to play, Lilly will definitely have set the standard high for Uni boys soccer.

Boys soccer preview '09: A young team is dreaming big

Last season, the Uni boys ended their season on a disappointing note with a loss to Judah Christian in the Class 1A regional semifinals. On top of that, the Illineks lost a good portion of their defense to graduation, though their offense is in good shape as senior Dan Lilly enters his final season at Uni.
