Result: Uni 65, Decatur Christian 39

Summary: The Illineks took a seven-point lead into halftime, then came out and turned the game into a rout with a 21-7 third quarter. Although Dan Lilly again excelled, this time with 22 points, including five treys, this was a team win in the truest sense. Eight Illineks combined for 43 points, 25 rebounds, and 14 assists.
Next Game: Friday, Feb. 6, at conference opponent Normal Calvary Baptist; JV action starts at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow; Uni has to win this game to have any realistic shot of gaining at least a share of the ECIC title

URBANA — It was another easy win for the Illineks on Tuesday as Uni breezed past visiting Decatur Christian 65-39. The conference victory brings Uni's record to 12-7 overall, 6-2 in the East Central Illinois Conference.

The Warriors kept it close early on, tying the Illineks 6-6 at the end of the first quarter. But Uni would then outscore the visitors 18-11 in the second quarter and never look back en route to a 65-39 blow-out.

Once again, junior guard Dan Lilly led all scorers with 22 points, 15 of which came from three-pointers. Lilly also added two rebounds, one assist, and three steals.

But this was a team win in the truest sense. Eight Illineks combined for 43 points, 25 rebounds, and 14 assists, making the Warriors pay the price whenever they tried to concentrate on stopping Lilly.

Sophomore Will Fernandez was the team’s second-leading scorer and contributed two rebounds and one block.

Senior Malcolm Taylor led the team in assists with seven, and also recorded four points and three rebounds, while sophomore Warren Skoza continued his dominance in the post with four rebounds, three blocks, one assist, and one steal on top of six points.

In JV action, it was more of the same as Uni defeated Decatur Christian 45-13.

On Friday, the Illineks will take on Normal Calvary Baptist at Normal. A victory is crucial if Uni is to win at least a share of the conference title, as they already have two conference losses while Calvary Baptist has only one.

Calvary Baptist defeated the Illineks 67-41 Jan. 13 at Kenney Gym. Look for Uni to return the favor Friday.
