URBANA — The Illineks ruled the court in the third quarter as they pulled away from Villa Grove to win 56-39 Thursday night at Kenney Gym.

Uni improved their record to 5-3 overall, but the girls have yet to play a conference game.

With a lead of only six points at halftime (26-20), the Illineks weren't sure they had the win. The visiting Blue Devils had even taken the lead at one point in the second quarter (16-15).

Coming out with very strong play in the second half, though, the Illineks established control and didn't let go en route to the 17-point win.

Half of Uni's final points were scored by Rachel Skoza. The senior post player's double-double of 28 points and 13 rebounds ensured a solid victory for the Illineks. Her point total was a career high; she also had four blocks.

Freshman Jamie Blue followed with nine points but led the team with 14 rebounds and four steals.

Seniors Jessi Sullivan and Joy Shapley made their contributions with six points apiece. Sullivan also recorded six rebounds and four assists.

The outcome was much different from last year's contest, when the Blue Devils took an early lead and hung on for a 43-39 victory.

In JV action, Villa Grove defeated Uni 39-26.

The Illineks will take the court again on Tuesday when they play Paxton-Buckley-Loda at Kenney Gym.
