GEORGETOWN — Take away the second quarter, and Uni would have emerged the winner in Monday night's nonconference road game against Georgetown Notre Dame de LaSalette.

Unfortunately for the Illineks the second quarter counted, and that was the difference in LaSalette's 53-45 victory.

Uni (5-3, 1-0 East Central Illinois Conference) jumped to an early lead, going up 13-8 by the end of the first quarter. However, the host Lions (5-3) dominated the next eight minutes, outscoring the Illineks 17-5 and going into halftime up 25-18.

After the break the Lions stretched their lead even more, building a 12-point advantage by the start of the final quarter.

Despite an explosive and high-scoring fourth period that saw the Illineks outscore the Lions 20-16, LaSalette was able to hold onto its lead and finish the night with an eight-point victory.

Once again junior Dan Lilly led the Illineks in scoring, this time with 22 points, including a game-high four three-pointers. He also recorded three rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and three steals.

Adam Gates of LaSalette led all scorers, with 24 points.

In all, Uni knocked down five treys to none for the Lions. Both teams got substantial points from the foul line, LaSalette hitting 11 free throws and Uni eight.

Lilly accounted for almost half of the team's offensive output; no other Illinek came close to scoring in double figures. Senior Malcolm Taylor was second with five points; he also had one rebound, four assists, and one steal. Junior Costa Cangellaris connected on Uni's other three-pointer.

Sophomore Warren Skoza had a solid defensive game as he contributed seven rebounds and eight blocks to go along with four points and one assist.

In JV action, Uni fell to LaSalette 38-35.
