URBANA — Uni boys hoops recorded its sixth win of the season with a dominating 82-58 victory Friday night over nonconference foe Oakwood.

The varsity record improves to 6-3 overall and remains 1-0 in the East Central Illinois Conference.

In the first quarter, the visiting Comets managed to play Uni close, trailing 13-12 going into the second quarter.

But that early effort was not indicative of the rest of the game, as Uni pulled away, outscoring the Comets 21-12 in the second quarter for a 10-point lead going into the half.

The Illineks had no difficulty putting the game away when play resumed, as they outscored Oakwood in both of the remaining quarters, 27-15 and 21-19, respectively.

Junior Dan Lilly scored a game-high 27 points and added five rebounds, eight assists, one block, and seven steals. Senior Alan Kessler scored 14 points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out one assist.

Junior Neil Pearson chipped in 10 points, two assists, and a steal. Juniors Nile Hamer and Costa Cangellaris both added eight points. Hamer also had seven rebounds and one steal while Cangellaris contributed one rebound, three assists, and a steal.

The Illineks will have a long break before their next game on Jan. 6, a road match against conference opponent Buckley Christ Lutheran.
