URBANA — In 23 years of Uni boys soccer, the Illineks have faced the Urbana Tigers 20 times.

After Uni’s 5-0 nonconference home loss to Urbana Saturday morning, they now have 20 losses.

The Illineks faced a tough matchup on both sides of the ball. The Tigers struck early, with goals in the 10th and 11th minutes.

Urbana scored again in the 39th minute to lead 3-0 at halftime, outshooting the Illineks 4-1 on goal.

Uni struggled in the second half as well. Urbana added two more goals in the 47th and 63rd minutes. The Illineks managed five shots on goal in the half, but could not come through.

Junior goalkeeper Nile Hamer made seven saves: three in the first half and four in the second.

With the loss, Uni’s overall record falls to 8-6-1. The Illineks are still undefeated in the ECIC, with a 3-0 record.

The loss continued Uni’s peculiar trend for blowouts, as four of Uni’s last five games have been decided by at least five goals. Two were Uni wins (7-0 over Decatur Lutheran and 9-0 at Iroquois West) and two were losses (7-0 at Champaign Central and 5-0 to Urbana).

The Illineks play three more regular-season games before they begin the Class 1A playoffs on Oct. 14. Uni is seeded second overall and will face Oakwood at 4 p.m.

The Illineks have defeated Oakwood twice this season: 4-2 in the Uni Soccer Shootout, and 4-0 at home on Sep. 16.

The team's next matchup is against Tolono Unity at home Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

In JV action, Uni fell to Urbana 3-0.
