The girls volleyball season ended in IHSA regionals with a loss to Deland Welson. The Illineks ended the season with a 16-13 record.

Uni High Volleyball Pink Game 2012

October is breast cancer awareness month, and the Uni High volleyball team is doing their part to raise awareness. The Uni High Pink Game, on Oct. 4, between the Illineks and Arthur Okaw Christian is scheduled to kickoff with the JV game at 6:00, which will be followed by the Varsity match at 7:30.

The Uni girls volleyball team lost their home game, Thursday Sept. 20, to DeLand-Weldon 13-25, 14-25.

2013 Track preview: large, young team has skilled returnees

This year's track team features a lot of new, young athletes, and many returning veterans, such as junior 800 runner George Gunter (pictured) and senior Emma Hoyer in shot put and discus, senior hurdler Chelsea Edwards, returning after a year off, and new teammate state cross country finisher Arch Robison.

Boys and girls track season update: Strong performances dominating, sectionals around the corner

Strong performances are dominating this year’s Uni High boys and girls track teams. The teams are a over halfway through their outdoor season and have been excelling in multiple areas. Check inside to see how both the track teams have been doing thus far this season.

Four students qualify for PrepTop

Four Uni students have qualified for PrepTop, the indoor state track meet. Track has an indoor season and an outdoor season, and PrepTop is the indoor season's unofficial state meet.

Girls Basketball: Illineks turn season around to win 8 of last 12 games

Coming into this season, the Illineks did not know quite what to expect out of this young team. They had set a record in wins the previous year by going 25-5 reached the sectional finals, but they had also lost a significant amount of talent. A 1-13 start did nothing to halt the doubts about this team, but the Illineks showed their toughness by turning things around after winter break and finishing the year 8-4.

Girls Basketball: Illineks defeat Judah in senior night victory

Uni defeated crosstown rival Judah Christian 42-28 on senior night Thursday. The win was their fourth in six games and halts a five-game winning streak for Judah.

Boys cross country: Mixed feelings as season draws to a close

Junior Arch Robison ran in the state cross country meet this past Saturday. The rest of the boys' last race was the previous weekend at the Sectional meet, where the team placed 9th of 21 teams.

Girls cross country: Surprising season ends just a place away from state

After losing all but two varsity letter-winners, the girls cross country team was not supposed to be competitive this season. They impressed all year long and at sectionals finished just one place away from qualifying for state as a team.

Subfreshman cross country: Michael places second, girls team 6th overall

Both the girls and boys subfreshmen cross country teams competed at the IESA State meet Oct. 13 in Normal, Ill. The girls team placed 6th, led by Annemarie Michael finishing second. The boys finished 20th.

Girls Swimming: Successful season ends with record-setting Sectionals

The performance of the Uni swim team at Sectionals concluded one of the most successful swim seasons in terms of team competitiveness in school history.

Girls Swimming: Otters take second in home meet

The Uni High Otters had their first home meet of the year Sept. 22. They came away with second place as a team in addition to many top finishes in the individual events and relays.

Boys soccer: Illineks one win away from state

[UPDATED] Junior Noel Knox scored the game's only goal as the Uni boys soccer team defeated Danville Schlarman 1-0 Friday afternoon in the Class A Monticello sectional semifinals. The Illineks will play Teutopolis at 3:30 p.m. Monday for the right to advance to the IHSA state tournament. A fan bus will leave Uni at 2:30 p.m. for the game.

Coaches vs. Cancer: The power of pink

For the second year in a row, Uni boys JV and Varsity basketball will be participating in Coaches vs. Cancer, a nationwide effort by the American Cancer Society and National Association of Basketball Coaches to raise money to help find a cure for cancer.

Chess: New season begins with victories over Stanford-Olympia and Mahomet-Seymour

Uni began the 2010-11 chess season with 58-0 victories over Stanford-Olympia and Mahomet-Seymour Thursday night. The team's next match is against Urbana High School on Nov. 18. In the future, Uni looks to improve upon their performance at last year's state competition.

Illinois Marathon '10 preview: C-U there!

About 220 Uni volunteers will participate in the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon on Saturday. Most of them will be involved in cleanup efforts, but several students will be running the half or full marathon. Subfreshman sports are an often overlooked, but very important part of the sports career of many Uni students. This year, both teams have the potential to do great things.

Subfreshman sports: Girls basketball clinches first win against Next Generation

This Tuesday, Nov. 2, the subfreshman girls basketball team earned their first victory of the season with a 19-12 win over Next Generation School. Seven different members of the Uni basketball team all contributed to the win.

Subfreshman cross country: All four Illineks place top 50 at finals, Dolan makes all-state

The subbies reached the end of their phenomenal cross country season Saturday morning at the IESA Class A state meet in Normal. Uni was represented by four runners who all finished in the top 50, led by Mara Dolan's 11th-place performance.
