Column: As Pages for All Ages closes, my childhood is officially over

Book lovers in Champaign-Urbana lost a friend this week when the owners of Pages for All Ages announced they were closing the store permanently, victim of the recession. Lauren Piester had been shopping at the store her entire life. Now she'll never finish all the books in the young adult section, and a part of her childhood is gone for good.

As Pages for All Ages closes, my childhood is officially over

"Do you have a book called, um, 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's ... Stone?' Or maybe it's 'sword.' I can't remember," I asked quietly yet confidently. The woman standing by the computer had helped me find practically hundreds of books before.

She smiled and chuckled a bit.

"Of course."
