Senior column: The impending 'real' world

Everything is changing very quickly as senior year wraps up. Soon the Class of 2012 will no longer roam the hallways of Uni High, instead they will be roaming the world (and being a little freaked out by it all).

Censorship and the seniors' graduation song choice

The seniors' chosen graduation song, "Memories Part 2" by Big Sean, has been rejected for containing explicit lyrics. An email sent to the senior class characterized the song as "beyond unacceptable." Whether or not that is true, disregarding the choice the seniors made as a class is frustrating and unfortunate.

5 silly things to do before you graduate

Hey y'all. I'm sure nobody even needs me to remind them, but seniors officially have 11 more days of school. Since graduation is almost upon us, it's nice to supply troublemakers with some ideas to wreak havoc on the school since, well, we're graduating!

Senior column: Finished and feeling good?

"It's sad to think about leaving it all behind, but I think the true test of my Uni education will come when I leave it," writes Lauren Piester, who graduated Saturday night with her 56 classmates. "How well am I prepared for college? For life after college? I can't say yet. But I know the transition will be made so much worse if all I can do is pine for high school."

Senior column: Step out of your comfort zone

"When I first came to Uni, I'll admit that I had some difficulties integrating myself into the larger community," writes Gordon Ruan, who during the past five years has learned to become a more confident and open person. "Looking back to my subbie year, I still can’t imagine how much I’ve changed."

Senior column: Lessons on friendship

"Maybe I'm too unwilling to compromise, maybe I'm too different," writes Elaine Gu. "I've yet to find that one friendship circle for me. But I've realized that's OK. Even though I don't have one best friend, I have a diverse group of people I hang out with. And most importantly, I'm happy with the way things are."

Senior column: An important lesson (sorely) learned

Lor Sligar didn't anticipate and certainly doesn't appreciate the giant medical curveball that fate threw her way this past weekend, but it's taught her something important that she needed to know before she could graduate. "This is what fate has decided to do," she writes, "and there's nothing I can do except sit back and hold on tight."

Senior column: When we were young

"I am choosing to go to a college in another state, where I have no previous connections," writes Deborah Ladd. "It is beginning to dawn on me that I am putting myself completely out of any comfort zone I have ever known, and it's a little scary. I am starting to long for the good old days … but no, not my ones at Uni."

Senior column: A great place to be

With only a few days to go before graduation, the Gargoyle's senior editors contribute their final thoughts about their Uni experiences. Lizzy Warner got the ball rolling a few weeks ago with her senior column. Up today: Isaac Chambers. "It is with great sadness that my time as a student here is over," he writes. "But it is with enthusiasm that, with my class, I become an alumnus of Uni."

Senior column: Thanks for the trouble, Uni

When Lizzy Warner was a freshman everything she did was important because, of course, everyone sincerely cared about every little thing she did. Now as a senior with less than three weeks to go before graduation, Lizzy reflects on how Uni disabused her of that notion and helped her become the person she is today.

Senior column: The advice I should have given myself

"My point is," writes Anna Cangellaris, "if you love something like art or athletics or theater or writing, make it the forefront of your focus. Don’t hide behind your calculus book or English texts simply because you have a knack for those subjects if they aren’t what you are passionate about. There are so many different things one can do, don’t try to conform to a mold and don’t let anyone ever put you in a box."

Senior column: An ode to Uni science

During her Uni years, Shivani Khanna got involved in a relationship that went from puppy love to lifelong commitment. Here's the story of how she got swept off her feet, thanks to the majestic inhabitant of the third floor: the Uni science department.

Senior column: Keeping it real in the real world

Sarah Pfander will be the first person to brag about her class, how cool and accomplished the seniors this year are. But, as she offers her congratulations and her best wishes, she hopes that this year's graduates will take some advice to heart.

Senior column: 525,600 minutes … multiplied by 5

"It would be nice if I could think of something profound and deep to leave to future students at Uni," writes Michelle Gao. "Unfortunately, all I can seem to think about right now is the odd feeling I have of wanting to leave quite terribly while also wanting to stick Uni in my pocket and take everyone with me everywhere."

Senior column: To college, life, and beyond!

"The last days finally come to a close," writes Jie Han. "It's almost over. I can taste its bitter sweetness in my mouth. They're turning us loose. We're about to leave high school. By the Great Cheese, what have they unleashed?"
