Column: Less was more for 2009 Halloween costumes

When going to a store to find a Halloween costume this year, customers were immediately assaulted by outfits sporting names like "Pocohottie" and "Cottontail Cutie." These costumes were not just taking up shelf space, girls were flocking to buy them. Jenny Cooke has a few thoughts on why girls insist on encouraging frostbite on Halloween.

YSL

To me, one of the most inspiring people is Yves Saint Laurent, who died last June at the age of 71. The man was simply a genius.

R.I.P. belt?

There are many accessories that have eventually fallen out of use. Either current fashions make them passé, or people realize that it just isn’t worth the effort to wear them all day. The function that these clothing items served is either replaced by another less confining product, or not replaced at all, leaving people to lead freer and more enjoyable lives.

You're going to wear that!?

Every day we get up and get dressed. We shower, style our hair, apply makeup, and spend a good amount of time deciding what the perfect combination of "pants, shoes, and shirts" is for that day.

We're girls. Some of us wake up half an hour before we have to leave, and some of us get up a good hour and a half before we would even have to get in the car: however long it takes to look good!

Boots with the what?

Boots with the fur. The expression has become practically immortalized since Flo Rida sang about them in his hit song “Low.” Now everywhere I go, there they are like a fuzzy disease.
