agora days

Column: Fixing Agora the right way

Agora Days 2012 are going to be different from what some may remember. Gone will be the classes that are simply for the purpose of watching "South Park" for a week. Instead they will be replaced with classes that will promote discussion and make Agora Days a "marketplace of ideas" rather than a week off. In my mind that is a good idea, but I think we may be addressing the problem the wrong way.

Column: In defense of Agora days

I love Agora week. But recently, as I've talked to my friends and classmates, I've noticed a certain negative aura surrounding Agora days.

Editorial: Reassessing Agora Days

Ah, Agora Days. A time-honored Uni tradition. But in our experience, the annual four days of merriment haven't always been so merry. How come the Agora Days you hear about in prospective student meetings is so different from the crazy if not downright unpleasant experience most of us had as subbies? And why are we always tired of the whole concept by the second day?

Guest column: A few memories of Agora Days

Sophomore Elizabeth Russell is proof you can learn a lot in four days. Last week she learned how to sew — she even made a stuffed animal — and how to swing dance. It was Agora Days, of course, and Elizabeth came away with a renewed appreciation of what was already one of her favorite weeks of the school year.

Column: Thanks for Agora Days, but gimme more

"I think Agora Week is possibly the best thing ever," writes Lizzy Warner, "and I anticipate it every year as school nears this time of year. I feel like I need a break! But then when I get it, I feel like all I really want is school to just be out for a week. No matter what you have, you always want more."

Gimme more

Agora Days changes every year. Subbie year I was the most excited about how wonderful and funny and interesting Agora would be, but when it actually came time to sign up for classes I was blessed with a schedule consisting of courses such as Certamen I, which was a class for students taking Latin … and I was in French.

Agora Days? Yeah, right …

It's a fun activity that someone tried to make educational for "academic" classification. It's one-and-two-thirds movies spread out over four days. It's a fun, laid-back sports practice that tries to exclude players who aren't "serious."

Yes, that's right, Agora classes, I am calling you out!

Column: Agora Days '08, when you can play "Halo" in school …

With the abysmal weather of late, and the workload of this semester starting to heat up, the Agora Days break from Feb. 19 to 22 couldn’t come any sooner. Chris Yoder can barely wait. Come inside as he takes you on a quick tour of this year's classes.

When you can play Halo in school...

Agora Days are coming back, everybody.

With the abysmal weather of late, and the workload of this semester starting to heat up, the coming break couldn’t come any sooner. Even though everyone has two take two “academic” classes, that still leaves six periods with which to play video games, watch a movie, or learn a martial art.
