Roving Reporter: What's your reaction to the decision not to have a Uni Culture Fair?
Published: Sunday, October 4, 2009 - 10:12pm
For our first Roving Reporter of 2009-10, we asked two students from each class what they think of the decision not to have a Uni Culture Fair this year. The first fair took place in May 2007, followed by two more — one in October 2007 and the other in October 2008.
TULI BERA
Senior
"I think after reading the article there is a point since many people took advantage [of the free food], which was an insult to the people who worked hard, but some students did get a lot out of it."
NEIL PEARSON
Senior
"It's the right decision because I don't think it served the purpose it was supposed to. ... [Other options] will only work if people participate, and I don't think enough people would participate."
EMMA COVERDILL
Junior
"I don't care because I agree with everything they said. It wasn't culturally based at all."
ALBERT ANASTASIO
Junior
"It's unfortunate, but people were more interested in getting as much [food] as possible than reading the posters. … It wasn't the most effective way to convey the message."
ANNA RUBAKHINA
Sophomore
"It was unfortunate for people who actually wanted to learn. … Uni is such a great source of different cultures, and it was a great way to learn about everyone."
SID MADHUBALAN
Sophomore
"It's really bad because it was nice to see the performances. … Though some people only wanted food, I think the majority of people went for the original purpose."
ABBI FRINGS
Freshman
"I enjoyed it, and every year we should do it. … It was a really good learning experience for me."
FREDDIE STAVINS
Freshman
"It's annoying because I liked eating foods from different places, but even if all everyone cared about was eating food, at least it meant when they ate they tried something new."

SURYA LOMBELA
subfreshman
"I guess it's sad because it sounds interesting, and I would've set up a booth."
CAMERON CORNELL
Subfreshman
"I am bummed out; the whole idea would've helped to bring our class together."

I think the culture fair
I think the culture fair sounded cool, and if the only way someone got something out of it was eating, HEY, at least they're trying new things.
