"The Room"
Where: 26 W. Church St., Champaign
When: Friday and Saturday, 10:00 P.M and 10:00 P.M.
Cost: $5
One of my favorite hobbies is watching movies that are so terrible that they become good. The lines are so misread, plot so silly, and directing so off that it becomes one of the funniest experiences you'll ever have at the movies. This week, the Art is showing the king of all "So bad it's good" movies: "The Room". Written, directed, and executive produced by the lead actor Tommy Wiseau, "The Room" has gained a cult status as one of the worst movies ever made, and for good reason. Wiseau is one of the worst actors in history, leading to tens of memorable scenes in which his strange inflections and body language is front and center. People have such an appreciation for this film that inside jokes and callbacks have been formed for screenings. For example, there is an inexplicable framed picture of a spoon that is seen throughout the film. The rule is that every time you see it, you throw handfuls of plastic spoons at the screen. This is not an experience to be missed, bring your friends and be ready to laugh until you cry.
Events
Uni Valentine Dance
When: Saturday, 8-11 p.m.
Where: Uni High, North Attic
Cost: $3 per person or $5 per couple
It's time again for a Uni dance, this one centered around Valentines day. The event looks to be pretty fun, with students Eujung Kim and Hoda Sayegh DJ'ing the event. This event also has extra importance, as it is being used as a fundraiser event for this year's prom. This is a more chill experience than Winter Formal or Prom, so for those of you who like the music but hate the ties, this one is for you. I admit that Valentines day can be a bit of a cheesy experience, but don't let that discourage you from enjoying yourself. It doesn't matter if you have a romantic comedy style of perfect date, or even that you have a date. The point is that you enjoy yourself with the spirit of the holiday. Have fun!
