Subfreshmen through juniors voted for next year's class officers. The Student Council class elections for 2012-2013 took place on Wednesday, May 2. Here are all the bio's of the winners.

Activist visits Uni as part of Day of Silence

Transgender activist and singer/song writer Ryan Cassata visited Uni to speak and perform a concert. Cassata's visit was a part of GSA's observance of Day of Silence.

Sophomore Exploravision team wins regionals

This year a Uni Exploravision team, coached by David Stone, consisting of sophomores Gloria Ha, Max Li, Ananth Nandakishore, and Roberto Chapa won their regionals competition. The team then placed in the top six teams at nationals.

Bensken, Newman, Simpson elected Student Council executive officers for 2012-13

Voting for next year's Student Council executive officer positions took place this morning in the kitchen. Junior Wyatt Bensken, sophomore Chas Newman, and junior Kaila Simpson all earned positions. Class elections will be held next week.

Four fresh faces: The search for Uni staff

Uni's staff usually changes from year to year, but next year students can expect more fresh faces than usual with the addition of four new faculty members next school year, including two new administrators.

This April, Uni High's Gay Straight Alliance is organizing a series of events to increase understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community at Uni. The Day of Silence will take place on April 25, and a speaker will come to Uni on April 26.

Splicing out the commas: Uni's Writing Center adds student tutors

Since its launch at the beginning of the year, Uni's Writing Center has been working to help students improve their writing skills. Now, the English Department is expanding the Writing Center by adding more trained student tutors, and offering different kinds of writing help.

On March 30 the European Union's Ambassador to the United States, João Vale de Almeida, visited Uni and spoke to classes during third and fourth period.

As fourth quarter begins, the weather is making it hard to stay inside. Students look forward to summer vacation delightedly, and the upperclassmen are excited for this year's prom!

Uni introducing new "odor clause" in student handbook

According to a Uni High administrator who wished to remain anonymous, Uni will soon be introducing an "odor clause" to its official handbook. The odor clause will punish originators of offensive smells at Uni.

Items in vending machines to be replaced

Instead of the typical vending machines stocked with foods such as chips and candy, it has been stated that starting from April 3rd, all vending machines at Uni High and surrounding schools will instead have school supplies.
