New student lounge policy looming overhead

Many upperclassmen were up in arms last week when they learned Assistant Director of Student Life April Warren-Grice is considering an explicit music policy in the student lounge whereby she would close the lounge for the day if she hears explicit music coming from the lounge.

IMEA: 37 Uni musicians earn all-district honors

Thirty-seven Uni students were honored as all-district musicians by the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA). The auditions were held Oct. 8 at Bloomington High School.

Battle of the Bands 2012 Preview

The fourth annual Battle of the Bands will be held on March 14 at the Virginia Theater. Come and support ten local teenage bands as they compete for a place at the regional competition.

IMEA: Seven Uni Students to attend All-State

Every year, the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) hosts auditions for District Festivals all over Illinois. From these auditions, a select few are chosen to go to the All-State festival and concert in Peoria. This year, seven Uni students will proceed to All-State.

Uni High student awards update: March

Uni High is known for its history of student recognition. In the month of March alone, students were recognized for their accomplishments in the regional Science Olympiad competition, the annual District Congressional Art Contest, and the Solo & Ensemble Music Contest. The Uni High girls' swim team was recently awarded a Silver Award by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

Jazz Band and Madrigals rosters announced

Uni High Music Director Rick Murphy has assembled the recruits for this year’s Jazz Band and Madrigals. After auditions earlier this month, the final rosters of both groups have been decided. “I’m very excited” Murphy comments. “This year could be a very good group”.

16 Uni musicians earn all-district honors

Practice paid off for Uni's new all-district musicians, who auditioned Monday at Bloomington High School. The district jazz festival is scheduled for Nov. 3 at Normal Community High School, followed two weeks later by the junior-senior district festival at Illinois State University. The top musicians at the high school level will go on to perform at the all-state music festival in Peoria in late January-early February.
