ICTM '10: Uni math team finishes 7th at state finals

Despite competing against teams from schools up to eight times its size, Uni placed seventh in Division 3AA at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics state finals held Saturday. Walter Payton College Prep from Chicago won the state title with 751 points. Uni finished with 595 points.

Despite facing schools up to eight times its size, Uni placed seventh in Division 3AA at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics state finals held Saturday. Defending champion Vernon Hills won the state title with 725 points. Uni finished with 567 points. Fifty-six schools competed in 3AA, which is for schools with enrollments of 1,000 to 1,999 students in grades 9-12.

Uni won first place in Division 3AA at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics regional contest Saturday at Parkland College. The team finished with 577 points, the sixth-highest 3AA regional score anywhere in the state. Uni now advances to the ICTM state finals, which will be held May 2 at the University of Illinois.

Russell wins one of nation's top math teaching awards
