Published: Thursday, May 10, 2012 - 3:05pm
This year, X-Week took place during the first week of May. Every day from April 30 to May 5, different sales and events occurred.
The goal for X-Week 2012 was to raise $3,000, the entirety of the profit to be split evenly between two charities; Spring Initiative and the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. In the end, X-Week raised over $3800.
Freshmen: On Monday, the freshmen hosted a bake sale. The sale had a menagerie of goodies, such as cookies and chocolate cupcakes. X's were drawn on the bottom of multiple cupcakes, and the lucky purchasers of the cupcakes received a cake as a prize.
Sophomores: On Tuesday, the sophomore class held a pizza and ice cream sale. In addition to this, they held a raffle for an iPad and two iTunes gift cards. The winners were announced during the traditional senior auction. Math teacher Rachel Tyson won the iPad, while sophomore Jia Curry-Bild and freshman Ansel Higgs each won a gift card.
Subfreshmen: The subfreshmen sold smoothies from Smoothie King during lunch on Wednesday. For $3, students could choose from Raspberry Sunrise, MangoFest, and Strawberry Kiwi Breeze.
Juniors: Thursday May 3, the Juniors had a breakfast sale. From bacon and bagels to sausage and cereal, the Junior class provided a filling buffet-style breakfast. Students, armed with appetites and five dollars for admission, filled their plates before hurrying off to class.
Seniors: On Friday the seniors held the annual Senior Auction during Uni Period, which directly followed fourth period. The auction lasted through the entirety of Uni pPeriod and the subsequent lunch. As usual, the senior class provided a plethora of creative items. History teacher Chris Butler offered to act as chauffeur for up to four students for a day. Senior Luke Karmazin had the highest bid of $40.
"I'm really happy with it," said Karmazin. "I thought it would go for a lot more. I plan on going to a movie and restaurant with some friends, perhaps some shopping as well."
Big Show is a annual sketch comedy show that is written and performed by the students of Uni High as part of X-Week. Directed by Seniors Christina Harden and Will Erickson, this year's Big Show was performed from May 3 to May 5 and featured short skits and video sketches covering a variety of satirical, comical, and downright bizarre themes.
