This year a Uni Exploravision team, coached by David Stone, consisting of sophomores Gloria Ha, Max Li, Ananth Nandakishore, and Roberto Chapa won their regionals competition. The team then placed in the top six teams for their age group at nationals.
Their project, MIROR Technology (Minimally-Invasive Robotic Orofacial Repair Technology), repairs a cleft lip on a baby before it is born and eliminates the need for expensive surgery. This topic also had some ties back to the team members themselves.
"Me and Mr. Stone have a cleft lip, and I have a cleft palate, so it was a little more interesting
working on it," said Nandakishore.
Even though the students did not win at nationals, the team members felt that the experience was still a wonderful and rewarding one.
"I enjoyed everything, even the sleepless nights and essay revisions. To be honest, those were my favorite parts. [...] I honestly can't think of anything I didn't enjoy about Exploravision," says Ha.
