You might remember that C-U's hours last year were also from 6 to 8. Why the change this year? According to local rules, if Halloween is on the weekend, then trick-or-treating moves up an hour.
If you're ambitious, you can trick-or-treat in Champaign-Urbana until 7, then hitch a ride to Savoy or Mahomet for another hour of trick-or-treating.
Expect some traffic if you're around the University of Illinois campus. The Fighting Illini play Michigan in football this Halloween.
The game begins 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
If this is a typical Illini football game — that is, if it doesn't stretch into overtime — it will end about 5:30. Tens of thousands of fans will be leaving the area near the stadium at that time, most of them in cars, so be alert when you cross the street.
