The following candidates are running for Class of 2012 president, vice president, secretary-treasurer, and Student-Faculty Advisory Committee representative. We are publishing them in alphabetical order without any editing changes for grammar, spelling, punctuation, or style. Elections will take place Monday.
Candidates for Class of 2012 President
JAMIE BLUE
My name is Jamie Blue and I am running for Sophomore Class President. All of my young life I have aspired to be the leader in whatever organization I am involved with. From being captain of my gold medal winning basketball team, to garnering the “Undefeatable Award” for extra effort and leadership, to achieving the “Most Dedicated Award” from the Uni High Varsity Basketball team, I have been a leader. I recently received the 2009 Student Historians of the Year for my articles published in Illinois History: A Magazine for Young People. I take on every challenge, every opportunity and give everything I have all the time. I lead by example in the classroom, in school and in the community and would enjoy the challenge of representing the class of 2012 in the Student Body of University High School. I have been referred to by my friends and teammates as ”the most honest person I know” and as Class President I will set an example of being an open minded, fair, honest, true and committed officer for the Sophomore class. I want to make the class of 2012 the class to remember not only in the hallways of Uni, but also on the fields, courts, and stages of our great community. I have worked hard the past two years as your class president, planning lock-ins, dances, and going to weekly meetings. Next year, I hope to work hard again to improve and lead our class.
LUKE KARMAZIN
Synergy, Mattress, Constantinople. These are words, but what our class needs is action. Luke Karmazin will end corruption, put a stop to crime, and look really cool while doing so. Vote Luke Karmazin.
ARAMAEL PENA-ALCANTARA
"It's a pretty good class," said young Aramael "And the fellow who runs it seems proud of it too, but if i ran the class," said he "I'd make a few changes that's just what I'd do... The events, and fundraisers and that kind of stuff, they have up here are not quite good enough. You see things like these in just any old council. They're awfully old-Fashioned. I want something NEW! So I'd open each Idea. I'd Unlock every secret. Let the old go, and start over again. An, somehow or other. I think I could find some ideas of a much more un-usual kind. A class trip is not enough fun the ones in my class will have more, at least! More each semester, after, before during class. Then people will stare and they'll say " What a sight!" This President, New President Aramael's quite keen. That's the gol-dardest idea i ever have heard. My New Ideas, StudCo's New Ideas, will make people Talk. My New Ideas, StudCo's Ideas, will make people gawk. At the strangest best ideas that ever worked. I'll get, for my ideas, a new sort of place. Where one gives, and the other builds on top, another on top of his, and another in his, and another in his, and so forth and upward and onward, Gee Whizz! But that's just a start. I'll do better than that. They'll see me next day, in my work. Coming with a cap, with a new idea! They'll be so surprised They'll all swallow their gum. They'll ask, when they see my ideas come "Where do you suppose He gets things like that from" His Ideas have odd places, I'll be he must them them in rather odd places!" And that's what I'll Do" said young Aramael. "If you want to catch ideas you don't see every day, you have to go places quite out of the way, you have to go places no other can get to. You have to get cold, and you have to get wet, too. Up past the north pole, where the frozen winds Squeal, I'll go and I'll hunt in my WINDO-MY-MOBILE-A-THON and bring back a family of what-do-you-know and that's how my ideas, will grow. If you just read this that's awesome, for those who did not READ IT, its extremely funny. I could spend the rest of this space saying why I'm qualified, but I won't. I just want you to know, that I believe in our class, and I believe in transparency, and input from EVERYONE!! I have even set up a couple places where you can do this: www.freshman.uservoice.com (unfortunately you have to sign up to see it, but the Terms of Use is good) and a Facebook Group, ask me and I'll add you in it. And there is always good-old-fashioned email, and even older pen and paper. If you want change, Vote Aramael, I can sure give a lot of it!
Candidates for Class of 2012 Vice President
MARIE LILLY
I, Marie Lilly, am running for Vice President again! I am qualified for this position because I am very organized, I care about our class, and I really want to be involved. I am open to everyone’s ideas and opinions. As Vice President of our class this past year, I have been helping to plan Spring Fling (which although it hasn’t happened yet, will be completely awesome!) and organize a fundraiser for X-Week. We had many pizza and bake sales this year as well as trying something new and having a successful hot chocolate sale in January. Now that I have been part of Student Council for the past 2 years, I have more experience and I have lots of ideas for next year! I also know more about how things work at Uni and about the process for organizing and planning events. Vote for me because if I am elected as Vice President, our sophomore year will be superb! :)
ANNA RUBAKHINA
I would like to run for vice president. Two years at Uni High have allowed e to become familiar and understand the school’s atmosphere, and to evelop a vision of issues that can be addressed by the Student Council. The previous experience of being in office during Elementary and Middle School where I was a Class Secretary and then as a member of the Student Council helped me to develop communication skills and leadership qualities. I can work both independently and as a part of the office team. I have ideas of new events that I would be glad to organize during the next school year including entertainment and community service. I’m confident that in the position of vice president, I will contribute enthusiasm, creativity, and leadership to enrich the experience of my fellow classmates at Uni High.
Candidates for Class of 2012 Secretary-Treasurer
KATHY QIU
Hi, I'm Kathy, and I'm running for class secretary. I would be a good secretary because I have obediently done many errands for teachers, my parents, my sister, and classmates. For example, I get new Kleenex boxes from the office for classrooms; I go grocery-shopping when my parents are not able to; I buy food for my sister when she is hungry; and I always return pencils I borrow from other classmates.
In conclusion, I think I would be a good class secretary.
ANNIE RONG
Hello to all, my name is Annie Rong and I will be running for the Secretary/Treasurer position this year for the rising sophomore class! I think that I would be a good secretary/treasurer because I’m an organized person, I like taking notes, managing events, and to work with others. In the past, I served Student Council in all my previous school and was the previous Subbie and Freshmen Secretary/Treasurer. It was a really fun experience and I really enjoyed it. That’s why I would like to run for it again this year! Thank you for reading. :P Your vote would be much appreciated.
Candidate for Class of 2012 SFAC Representative
CHRISTINA HARDEN
Hey guys! I, Christina Harden, am running for SFAC representative for the Freshmen class again this year! I think I'm qualified for this position because I've served on SFAC for the past two years, so I think I have plenty of experience for this position thingy, I also think I'm a pretty organized person, and I care about all your lovely and creative ideas! :D I would really like to be on SFAC again this year because I think I'll have more of a voice in what we talk about, and help to improve Uni a lot more. In the past, our awesome Freshmen class representatives have planned a lot of cool stuff, and we'd like to continue to be involved in doing that. So, overall, it would be awesome if you guys would elect me to be SFAC representative again. :)
