WHEATON — Chelsea Edwards, a member of the Class of 2013, earned honorable mention at the Illinois State Music Teachers Association's junior high state piano competition held Saturday at Wheaton College.
Competing in a field of 12 finalists, Edwards performed the following pieces:
- Haydn's "Sonata in F Major, Hob. XVI: 23, 1st movement"
- Chopin's "Nocturne in C-sharp Minor, Op. posth"
- Turina's "The Circus: The Aerialists"
She advanced to the state contest after being named one of the two top scorers in the Oct. 25 ISMTA district competition at the Millikin University School of Music, where she performed the same pieces.
