Uni High's third annual Cultural Fair is just a day away. The Oct. 3 event promises to be spectacular, but organizers need your help to make it as good as it can be. To do our part, the Online Gargoyle is hosting a "Countdown to Cultural Fair '08," a daily update by the event's organizers. They'll let you know what they need, how things are going, and what you can look forward to. Our latest update comes from one of the parent organizers, Jennifer Hamer, associate professor and interim head, Department of African American Studies, University of Illinois.
URBANA — We can't have a Street Fair or Cultural Fair without music and artists, can we? Take a look at Friday's lineup:
- Ugandan/Champaign rapper Krukid
- Uni's very own Jazz Band 1 and Jazz Combo (Clement Dossin, Miguel Zamora-Mills, Aaron Wilson)
- Mousa Bolakande, master drummer from Guinea and scholar in residence at the World Music Center on campus
- The Alpha Phi Alpha Step Team
- Mehndi artist Zainab Susi
See you Friday!
Note: The Capote Flat, a band featuring junior Eddie Diazmunoz on drums, was scheduled to perform at the fair but had to cancel because other members, from out of state, will not be able to attend. For more about Eddie and his band, look for an OG story by Sindha Agha coming soon.
