Posted Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, The OG, student awards

Senior Katie Carmody has been selected as the school's nominee for the 21st annual Chicago Tribune Illinois High School All-State Academic Team competition. The judges will select 70 finalists from nominees throughout the state.

The finalists will be put through another selection process that will narrow the group to 10 winners, each of whom will receive a 2006 Tribune All-State Academic Scholarship, a sum of $2,000 per winner.

The Chicago Tribune will publish the names and schools of all the finalists as well as profiles of each of the 10 winners in the May 7 edition of the paper.

The most recent Uni member of the Tribune team was 2004 graduate Valerie Ross, now a student at Stanford University.
