Congressional deadlock, groundless ridicule of the president, the obnoxious political circus around firearm regulation, and recent scandals coming from the executive office have all served to reinvigorate my frustration with American politics.

Filing into Uni Gym, sitting in orderly rows, and staying still for hours as the administration recognizes and honors those who have achieved more than any of their peers. In my three years at Uni, the awards ceremony has always been one of the worst days of the year.

Food Pantry Club to host car wash this weekend

Food Pantry Club will host a car wash on Saturday, May 25, from 1 to 4. Each car owner can choose an amount of money to give to the club, and all proceeds will go to the Wesley Food Pantry in Urbana.

The wash will be held at Prospect Bank in Champaign, which is located on the corner of Prospect and Kirby.

Recently, a large poster was hung on the first floor hallway, above lockers 65 through 71. The poster displays the boys' soccer team, which finished its season at second place in its division in the state, posing with medals and a trophy.

Gargoyle Auction: Gala alternative proves successful

This year’s Gargoyle Auction took place on Sunday, April 14 at Uni Gym. Despite a smaller number of attendees compared to last year's Gala, the Gargoyle Auction managed to raise over $24,000.

X-Week '13 raises money for local charities

This year, X-Week proceeds were donated to Wesley Evening Food Pantry and Developmental Service. The money was raised by funds from the classes’ diverse fundraisers.

Monday, the sophomore class hosted a bake sale where students were encouraged to bring in pastries to help with the sale. Pastries marked with an “X” would get a free cake.

Experiencing the Oxfam Hunger Banquet

Yesterday, I decided to attend the Oxfam Hunger Banquet, which was hosted by the Social Justice class during lunch and Uni period.

Going into the event, I was a little worried. I had only discovered the variety in food quantity that morning, and thus had not brought a back-up lunch.

ICTM State Competition

On Saturday, May 4, 27 Uni High students competed in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) state competition. The team as a whole placed eighth out of 62 schools, with a combined score of 700 points. Only one team surpassed 800 points.
