Here are some more scenes from this year's subbie retreat, which took place Aug. 28. Whether they were building candy houses, participating in the subbie version of the Olympics, or pulling their hardest during tug-of-war, the school's newest students got to know each other better thanks to the retreat's games and activities.

Snapshots from Subbie Retreat '09

The annual subbie retreat took place today, giving the school's newest students a chance to get to know each other better. Rain prevented the Class of 2014 from going to Meadowbrook Park for the day, so they had to make do with Uni Gym and assorted classrooms. Still, with the help of their subbie buddies, they had a great time!

As the first quarter comes to a close, this year's subfreshmen have become a tight-knit group. The bonding process started back in August, when the class took part in Subbie Retreat '08. The students spent time playing games and learning teamwork under the guidance of subbie buddies and faculty advisers. Lor Sligar and Lizzy Warner were among the subbie buddies, and they produced this account of the experience.

First person: Looking back at this year's Subbie Retreat

The Subbie Retreat has been a Uni tradition for almost 15 years. It welcomes new students to the school and helps them bond with their classmates in ways they would not be able to in a classrom setting. This year’s retreat was a full day and included activities like running, screaming, and creating chaos. Sophomore Katherine Allen, a subbie buddy who went on the retreat, takes a closer look at what happened.
