IN SPITE OF the cloudy weather, several Uni student activists were among the 75 Champaign-Urbana citizens who came out on Oct. 3 to participate in the sixth annual Unity March in support of justice for the poor.

The event was sponsored by Champaign-Urbana Citizens for Peace and Justice and other local organizations.

Workers came out from shops to support marchers of varying ages and races as they made their way down University Avenue, part of the two-hour march that began on Neil Street in Champaign and ended at the Champaign County Courthouse in Urbana.

Tired marchers concluded their activism for the day by listening to an address by Father Tom Royer and a reading by local poet Aaron Ammons, and then enjoying refreshments at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center.

Gargoyle reporter Nancy Tang was on hand to capture the event in photos and sounds.

Props to student activists!

It's wonderful to see Uni students getting involved in community events promoting economic and social justice in C-U. Keep up the good work Raina, Emma, Alexx, Nancy, Dezy, and all other students who were at the Unity March!
