Trick or treat: Top 10 Halloween treats
Photo used under Creative Commons license (click to enlarge)Everybody looks forward to Halloween, if not for the crazy costumes, at least for the delicious (or just fun) treats you can get in your candy bags. Gargoyle editor Katherine Allen came up with the treats she'd most like to get this year.

Ahh, Halloween. What was once a celebration to honor the dead has now turned into a commercialized holiday where kids run around in costumes to get candy. But we don’t mind the change. We love all the lovely treats we can get just by ringing a doorbell. Read on to see what's on Katherine Allen's Halloween checklist for this year.
10. Toothbrush
So, we know this one is a bit of a downer. But seriously, it might be useful, at least as a reminder to think of your teeth before you tear open that candy wrapper.
9. Candy Corn
The most classic of all Halloween candies. The reason they're so low? You either love 'em, or you hate 'em. And even if you love 'em, it doesn't take too long for all the sugar to give you an immense toothache.
8. Cookies
So, it might not be incredibly safe to eat cookies made by complete (and possibly psychotic) strangers, but cookies are nice. We’d like a little more variety than just candy.
7. Drinks
Spending two hours trudging from house to house with a heavy bag of candy can be tiring. If you want to rejuvenate yourself without the inevitable sugar rush that comes with candy, get a drink. But who remembers to bring one of their own? It would be nice if some people thought to give out little water bottles or juice boxes.
6. 100 Grand
While ideally we’d like to get the real thing, we somehow doubt we’ll be getting that in our jack-o-lantern buckets. Instead, we’ll settle for the caramel, crisped rice, and chocolate candy. Delicious!
5. Apples
While it can be a little disappointing to get an apple instead of a handful of candy, it is important to remember that it’s good to eat foods that appear closer to the bottom of the food pyramid, rather than right at the top.
4. Hand Sanitizer
After the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen how crazy the sickness is this year. So, instead of giving us candy, why not some hand sanitizer? They can come in cute bottles and a variety of scents, and they help keep us healthy — so we can enjoy our candy later!
3. Glow-in-the-Dark Necklaces
How cool are glow-in-the-dark necklaces? Very. And besides, they can act as safety tools, keeping you illuminated so that cars and bikes don’t run you over when you’re crossing the street.
2. Pretzels
Sometimes, the sugar gets to be too much. What to do then? We hope that we get pretzels in our bags to offset some of the effects of too much sugar.
1. Chocolate
What can we say — chocolate is classic. There are so many different kinds of chocolate bars that even the pickiest of eaters is sure to find one to love. Hershey’s, Snickers, Milky Way, Reese’s, Crunch, M&Ms, Baby Ruth, Butter Finger, Twix, Kit Kat … the list goes on. And on. And on ….
