You might remember that C-U's hours last year were also from 6 to 8. Why the change this year? According to local rules, if Halloween is on the weekend, then trick-or-treating moves up an hour.

Because I usually eat dinner at 6, I'm tempted to replace my usual dinner with candy.

If you're ambitious, you can trick-or-treat in Champaign-Urbana until 7, then hitch a ride to Savoy or Mahomet for another hour of trick-or-treating (or you can just ignore the standard hours).

Expect some traffic if you're around the University of Illinois campus. The Fighting Illini play Michigan in football this Halloween.

The game begins 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. If this is a typical Illini football game — that is, if it doesn't stretch into overtime — it will end about 5:30. Tens of thousands of fans will be leaving the area near the stadium at that time, most of them in cars, so be alert when you cross the street.

Although I only have two hours of trick-or-treating — hours in which I'd usually eat dinner — I'm still taking my time to load up on goodies. I'll enjoy trick-or-treating. I'm not going to rush. Quality over quantity, right?

I don't think I'm too old to trick-or-treat … yet.
