Three-day weekend … hooray!

The approach of a three-day weekend has lifted many spirits, lightened many steps, and generally increased the jollity of the school.
It doesn’t matter that report cards are being mailed this week or that we’ve got tests coming up, or even that we’ve got a huge paper to write — one day less of school is a reason to celebrate. It means that we’ve got one day extra to do homework, one day extra to sleep in, one day extra to have a social life, and one day extra to clean up that nasty mess in our rooms that we have just been too busy to notice.
Even if you don’t have any plans for that third day, just thinking about the idea an extra day off is an extremely effective mood booster.
About to fall asleep in history class? Frustrated with an unexpectedly nasty math problem? Just think about that three-day weekend — that special Friday where you can sleep in for as long as you like. You’re guaranteed to stay awake at least five more minutes and to experience some temporary relief from your math problem.
There is also the fact that on this particular three-day weekend, while we’re sleeping in our nice cozy beds, our teachers still have to make their daily trudge to school for another eight-hour day at Uni.
To top it all off, you can laugh at your friends from other schools who most likely still have school on Friday and enjoy the lack of a weekend crowd at all of your favorite hangout spots.
It's funny that just one extra day brings to life so many possibilities.
Also, without any big breaks left, three-day weekends are more of a joy than usual. We go to school for four days, then get to relax for three. In this last stretch before summer, three-day weekends can seem comparable to Thanksgiving break or even spring break. And now we'll have nice weather to enjoy on our short vacation.
But while this idea of a three-day weekend has actually inspired me to get out of bed by 7 a.m., to do some homework, and to pay attention in class, I’ll probably save every bit of homework for Sunday afternoon, and still try to procrastinate even further. Despite this, I'm going to eagerly await the next three-day weekend in two weeks time.
