Did you read the book? I suggest just heating one room, and having your family stay in that room until it's bed time. This will save you energy and possibly create a better environment for your family. When it's time for bed, buy an extra comforter for everyone in the house and sleep with the heat off or on a very low setting. If you have to use separate rooms for some reason, just try to keep the heat down and bundle up.
