The 2006 Uni winter sports awards ceremony was held Monday night at Loomis Lab. Members of the girls and boys junior varsity and varsity basketball teams were honored for their accomplishments during the 2005-06 season.

Girls junior varsity basketball awards

• Most improved: Katie Ryan

• Most intense: Sarah Pfander

• Most dedicated: Bianca Zaharescu

• Best defensive player: Katie Carmody

Girls varsity basketball awards

• Most valuable player: Al Johnson

• Most improved: Sarah Pfander

• Most dedicated: Nuole Chen

• Outstanding defender: Ruthie Welch

• Sophia Neely Honorary Coaches Award for Outstanding Leadership and Sportsmanship: Alejandra Collopy

• Tough Illinek: Sarah Pfander

• Most steals: Aran Yoo, with 2.4 per game and 56 total for the season

• Most assists: Samantha Nguyen, with 2 per game and 46 total for the season

• Most rebounds: Al Johnson, with 8.5 per game and 196 total for the season

• Most points: Al Johnson, with 12.1 per game and 278 total for the season

• East Central Illinois Conference honorable mention: Julie Chen, Rachel Skoza, Jessi Sullivan, Aran Yoo

• ECIC all-conference: Al Johnson
