Wills of our childhood

This past week I thought long and hard who should be the first great Will that I profile, and then it hit me: I should start with Wills where Wills started with me.

So here is a list of very memorable Wills from my childhood:

Wee Willie Winkie

Where there's a Will there's a way

William is a very powerful name.

It came from the Germanic roots Wil, meaning "will or desire", and Helm, meaning "helmet, protection." Hence a person named William is a determined protector, someone who will give up at nothing to protect what he has set out to keep safe.

Booty shakin' Republicans

My eyes will never be the same thanks to former Texas Republican Congressman Tom DeLay.

A study of virtuosos

I've always been a fan of tennis, but, when I watched the U.S. Open this past week, I was struck by one player in particular.

A new type of storm: Thunder, wind, and "Lightning Bolt"

On May 31, 2008, a storm started to brew over a New York City track stadium, a storm that would take over the athletic world. That's when Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt jumped off the blocks in the men's 100-meter race and into the consciousness of thousands who saw his performance on ESPN and YouTube as he broke the world record with a time of 9.72 seconds.

Why does Britain get ALL the talent?

Talent is a gift that only select people are allowed to have. That most holy of all dictionaries, the Oxford English Dictionary (or OED for short), defines talent as a "special natural ability or aptitude, usually for something expressed or implied; a natural capacity for success in some department of mental or physical activity."

Greatest film ever!? Katy and Will debate "Hannah Montana: The Movie"

"Hannah Montana: The Movie" comes out Friday, and much like Laura Dripps, we're pretty excited. So as the coolest writers ever, we decided to have a truly philosophical discussion about this ground-breaking movie.

The other Final Four

While many college hoop fans have watched this year's NCAA men's basketball tournament, I've decided not to pay much attention.

Who watches the Watchmen?

It's the 1980s, Nixon is still president, superheroes are real and illegal, and the United States has a pan-ultimate weapon against the Soviet Union — just waiting to be detonated.

At least it is in the world of the Watchmen.

Inauguration 2009: Thoughts from Will Fernandez

Note: All times are Central.

10:58 a.m. — Joe Biden takes his oath of office. Always interesting to watch the vice president (not elect anymore). He emits such confidence, and he really was an excellent choice for Barack Obama. Without his hard-nosed efforts on the ground campaign, I don't see how Obama would have been able to reach out as far as he did.

My favorite commercials of 2008

2008 was an interesting year in TV to say the least. Beyond the presidential election, the Olympics, and many other programs taking up prime time, there were many great commercials that made you think, made you laugh, and (maybe) even made you cry. So now I give you some of the best and worst commercials of 2008.

Banking Baby / E*TRADE

The NBA is back and more exciting than ever

The shot with under a second to go.

The amazing alley-oop passes that make you wonder if these men have a telekinetic bond.

The monster dunks that stretch the imagination to the possibility that man can fly.

All of that and more is back and better than ever in the NBA.

After the first month of action, we have already seen a few incredibly notable things.

Election Night 2008: The final hours

Preface
We are literally hours away from the conclusion of one of the most important events in our lifetime: the 2008 presidential election. Tens of millions of Americans will have voted for the new leader of the free world. History will be made with either the first African American president or the first female vice president. Both are major steps in our country's history.

The world of music: A few things you have to hear

I have always had a love for music. Every since I've been alive that's all I could think of. Not just all rock or all rap — all things that sound good. Rock, country, alternative, hip-hop, pop, even polka; anything you put on I'll listen to.
