Blog: Nook Nerd!

On Thursday, May 3, I checked out the Nook Number 4 from the Uni High Library. Now, over my life, I have checked many, many things out from various libraries, whether they be in San Jose, CA, Stony Brook, NY, or right here in Champaign, IL. This Nook, however, is by far my favorite thing that I have ever checked out.
The library has four Nooks, creatively titled 1, 2, 3, and 4. Currently I have Nook Number 3, because I finished the books that I wanted to read on Nook Number 4.
I love these Nooks. Though I truly believe that I will always prefer the rustling of pages and the slightly musty smell of books, I must admit that using the Nooks has opened my eyes to a whole new world of reading.
I managed to read through three books in two days, all without having to switch books or worry about bookmarks, something that has never happened to me before, and I must say it was very, very nice. I was able to quickly switch to the next book, and not have to tramp around the house looking for it.
The other features of the Nook are just as nice. I love the web-surfing aspect-it's very convenient for email checking, or just for entertainment. The Pandora app, which seems to be on every Nook is also high on the list of my favorite parts of the Nook.
Overall, checking out these two Nooks has completely changed my opinion of e-readers. Before I tried the Nooks, I had the purist opinion that a Nook could never compare to a book. After, though I still believe that reading paper books (especially children's books) is important, e-readers are a great alternative, simply for their ease.
