Let them eat cake (in a cup)
Published: Sunday, May 9, 2010 - 6:28pm
I have a very limited amount of cooking skills. My mother likes to point out that I managed to explode instant oatmeal in a microwave. Normally, I have to wait for my brother to bake dessert for me when I crave sweet things.
However, one fateful winter day, my brother and his baking skills had abandoned me for a late basketball game. I was all alone at home and desperately needed something chocolate and sweet. So I did what any self-respecting teenager would do and turned to the internet.
Google presented me with a recipe for 5 minute chocolate cake in a cup. It involved throwing a few ingredients together in a mug and then microwaving it to get a perfect one-person cake.
The recipe said that it was easy enough for children to make so I felt a bit safer trying it. After a few failed egg crackings, I managed to get all of the ingredients in the cup and into the microwave. I watched the microwave with fascination as my cake slowly expanded out of the mug. I opened the microwave to find a fully-formed, mini chocolate cake.
It smelled delicious and I quickly pulled it out and smeared it with chocolate frosting (because you can never have too much chocolate). It was delicious and I was wonderfully proud of my baking prowess.
Now whenever I crave dessert, I whip out this handy recipe and make cake. It is the perfect treat for a serious sweet tooth.
