In praise of breakfast

Something that is almost always on my mind during my fourth-hour class is, "When does lunch start?"

I believe that breakfast is the most important important meal of the day. If I do not eat breakfast, I find it harder to concentrate in my classes and do well in them. A nice breakfast helps me succeed throughout my day.

Breakfast is the first chance your body can get to refuel your glucose (also known as blood sugar) levels, after 10-12 hours since last night's dinner or snack. Glucose aids your brain so you can think better. Having a nice breakfast also helps you feel more energized and ready for the big day ahead.

Sadly, despite its importance, many people do not eat breakfast. There may be many reasons for that — they don't have enough time, for example, or they just don't want to eat that early. However, these excuses are not good enough, considering the many different breakfast options that you can choose from and enjoy.

Some healthy, yet tasty, breakfast options that I like include:

  • waffles or pancakes
  • cereal like Honey Bunches of Oats, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  • a fruit smoothie
  • an "original" breakfast of egg, toast, and bacon

If you are running late, some good breakfast options could include something as simple as:

  • yogurt
  • a bagel with cream cheese
  • fresh fruit that is ready to eat
  • cereal bars or granola bars

Tomorrow morning, do not just run out the door on an empty stomach. First fuel up with a healthy breakfast!

That would be nice, but

That would be nice, but it's impossible for some of us to eat as much breakfast as we need to. It's been documented on the OG that sleep is hard to come by, and I find it really really hard to yank myself out of bed early just to eat. Although eating a large breakfast is ideal, it's not always practical.
