Tall girls don't exist

According to various clothing lines and stores the tallest a woman can be is 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10. If you're taller than that, too bad, you have to find somewhere else or just wear men's clothing.

Pants with long enough inseams (leg length from crotch to ground) are impossible to find for me at regular department stores (or other low-price stores). At over 6 feet with shoes, my inseam is 37 inches. The common inseam for "long" or "tall" sizes is 34, "regular" is 32, and "short" is 28 to 30.

I can't just go to Kohl's or JCPenney and buy a $14.99 pair of jeans. They'd be highwaters!

Same goes for any long-sleeved shirt, sweater, coat, etc. I wanted a winter coat because it's getting colder; I knew I would have to go online to find taller women's sizes. I couldn't find a women's coat in a tall size for under $150.

Eddie Bauer is the only brand that has tall sizes for women's outerwear, but it's pricey. Land's End's outerwear are also of nice quality, but they only sell tall sizes for men.

Tall women have to pay more to get regular, seemingly inexpensive clothes that average-sized women can buy for less. Even if I do find relatively inexpensive clothes I like online, I have to order them, pay the shipping and handling costs, wait a week or so, then see if they fit and if I actually like them.

Not only do tall sizes usually only appear in more expensive brands, but the taller you are, the more material you're paying for.

I don't particularly care about wearing really nice clothes, or name brands, but I do want to be able to wear decent clothes that aren't men's … and that I like!

I'm not the only one out there.

I feel your pain

I know exactly what you mean, being 6' myself, without shoes. I will say that things have gotten a lot better since I was in high school (only 11 years ago). There was no such thing as tall women's clothing then, and I did literally have to buy guys jeans. The styles were a little different, so it wasn't quite as bad as it would be now though. I'm hoping that more stores continue to start making "tall" clothing (usually a 36" inseam) and not just "long" clothing (usually 34" inseam). One trick is to buy pants with cuffs and let the cuffs down. Sometimes you can even buy "normal" pants that way. That's pretty much all I've been able to do lately, as there is no such thing as tall maternity clothing. Don't even get me started on that one...

Clothes for tall chicks

Hi, Rachel--
I so feel your pain. I'm 6'2 and have a size 13-14 shoe. I was so fed up with the (lack of) clothing options available for tall chicks that I started my own clothing company. It's Kat Clothing and we're all about tall.

I hope you check it out and we can give you a good fit.

Happy holidays and best,
Kat

I totally understand. But

I totally understand. But people at the other end of the spectrum (i.e. short men) have it pretty hard also. I'm 5'4'' and legally an adult but I am always stuck between having to choose kids clothes that are too small and "adult" clothes that are always too loose. Agh. Don't even get me started about suit shopping!

Re: I totally understand. But

At least you can cut off material in the arms or legs & hem them if they fit your body.

Why I hate winter coat shopping

Being a proportionate 6'4", 36 inseam, & long arms. I made a lot of my dress clothes since I stopped growing at age of 12. 20 years later, I can buy clothes that are long enough. BUT, I'm finding they do not fit my chest or hips. I have curves...not a tall skinny board. I tend to buy bigger sizes than I need & tailor them to fit me. That's if they have my size to begin with...a 16 thanks to childbirth. LOL

My major frustration comes from winter coat shopping. I want a woman's coat that will keep me warm in the Northern Minnesota climate. One with feminine colors. Not another boxy men's jacket with basic colors of brown, black, blue, red...all dark colors. I can find women's jackets that fit my wide shoulders & chest, but the arms are always 3 to 4 inches short. Maybe in anther 20 years, they will catch on. In the meantime, my brown, boxy Carhartt that covers my dairy aire will have to due.

Ain't it the truth?!!!

Ain't it the truth?!!! Stores could make a fortune just off me alone if they sold clothing in my length!! I won't go into my woes about trying to find decent clothing for me and my (very tall) children: you women have voiced them for me.

I'm 6'1" with a 37 inch

I'm 6'1" with a 37 inch inseam and womens' size 13 shoes. I haven't owned a pair of womens' shoes since grade school. There's actually a good selection of girly colors in men's skate shoes - eS, Vans, Etnies, etc.
Jeans shopping is flat out frustrating and I feel your pain! There's a store called Vanity that is AMAZING. They only have stores in a handful of states but I believe you can order clothes off of their website. They have tall girl jeans galore :) I have a couple pairs of Vanity jeans that are actually too long for me - it's such an amazing feeling!!
I've had good luck at Anchor Blue - they always have long jeans on their clearance rack for about $20. They aren't quite long enough, but they are longer than anything you'd find at a dept store.
Women's tops simply don't fit me. I can wear women's tank tops and some baby tees, but that's it. If it has long sleeves, forget it - too short!

I'm not tall, and nothing fits me

I don't fit in anything. Period. Pants, pajama bottoms, tights, sweat pants. If it's a bottom with a crotch, it doesn't fit. (I always get digging in the crotch, like the rise is never long enough!?)

So, I'm stuck wearing skirts 24/7. And I seem to be an average size: 5'6" and 118. I guess I'm just built so weird, that nothing, absolutely nothing fits!

Tall stores

Ladies,

I feel all of your pain. I'm 6'4" and a size 16. Neither bone thin nor heavy. I have found several stores that I absolutely love. They are all online stores and it does take a few hits and misses before you truly figure out your size however I urge you to check out these links.

www.longlegs.ca (my favorite)
www.tallwomensclothes.com
www.tallgirlshop.com
www.oldnavy.com (seriously, they just started a tall line but it's only for online shopping, no in-store tall clothes)

If you do a google search you'll find more however these are my top links. Good luck!

But I have it horribly bad

I am a 6'2" young girl. i am not even 16 and my inseam is 37". i cant buy any clothez my length. in arms or legs. and forget name brands i have 3 pairs of pants that actually fit. i wear a size 10 and am not a stick figure but i should be avle to buy long enuff clothes. if baby phat made long clothes i would buy them... they could make a killing off of me alone.

It's the fact.

I also made clothes for women with heights of 5'6 to up to 5'9 because it's the usual size. It would just be stuck in our storage if we made someone for height of 6'ft above ... women with this height are rare..

I am 6 feet tall. I feel

I am 6 feet tall. I feel your PAIN! I was actually looking to shop online just now and it's so expensive for any item of clothing. Got any good suggestions??
