Welcome, Guest!

Five mellowing songs

We all hear the same songs on the radio, over and over again. Catchy phrases and melodies beat into our brains, getting stuck and covering the inside of our skull with a thick goo.

At least, that's how I see it. It can be very fun to dance like a maniac to one of these radio songs, but here is a list of chill-out songs that might soothe your brain instead of rubbing all your nerves the wrong way.

1. "Comptine d'un autre été L'après" by Yann Tiersen
I admit the old guy in the animation is a little scary looking, but the short piano song is very beautiful. The song is from the movie "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain," meaning "The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain," or better just known as "Amelie." If you like this song, you'll probably like the other piano renditions of the soundtrack.

2. "Limb to Limb" by Mellowdrone
If you aren't so into the emotional piano scene, this song I recently discovered is more of the indie type and very quieting. It makes one feel sort of nostalgic, which I hate and love. I haven't heard much else from this band, but I like this song. Listen to it here.

3. "Ghosts of a Future Lost" by Clint Mansell
From the movie "Requiem for a Dream," this song is chilling and nostalgic, but beautiful. If you want something that gives the opposite effect, listen to "Party" from the same soundtrack.

4. "The Facts of Life" by Black Box Recorder
Though this song has some odd subject content, it's still a very relaxing song. It may bring back waves of middle school for some.

5. "Claire de Lune" by Claude Debussy
I had to stick this one in because I'm doing a project on Debussy. A well-known piece, but really sit back and enjoy its beauty, because generations of people can't all be wrong.
