A case for vampires

Vampires, crazy teen girls, a small town in the middle of America — sound like anything familiar? Maybe the premise does ring of "Twilight," but the show I have in mind is distinctly its own.

To do: How to finish the year the right way

We have finally hit crunch-time. The last couple days of actual school bring relief for some, but for most they are a period of stress, sleeplessness, and endless work. Last year my last week was a constant rush, and I promised myself that I would not go through it again.

Cooking for the culinarily challenged

I find myself constantly hungry. Well, actually that's not true, I just like to eat — a lot.

Unfortunately, I'm not very talented at cooking or baking. While my mom does make some really good stuff, sometimes it's just not enough and I find myself wishing I knew how to make (or had the ability to make) that delicious pie I saw on TV or the lasagna the characters on the show were eating.

Beware the undertow!

When I was 8, my family spent a summer at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island.

Auto-everything: Does it ruin art?

Rap artist Jay-Z wrote a rather rebellious song in 2009 titled "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)."

Getting funnier with age

Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, and Kristen Wiig. All three are hilarious people and have long lives of comedy ahead of them.

Plucking away

I generally like to think of myself as someone who looks put together and can dress herself, but getting ready for prom was a different matter.

With my two sisters gone and my mother busy for the night, I was nervous about how I was going to look when prom came around. I had my dress but I had no idea what to do with my hair and make-up.

How to conquer stress: Summer edition

The end of the year is quickly approaching, which means finals and the 5K to the generic stressed-out Uni kid. Work loads and stress levels run especially high at this time of year. But never fear! With this handy anti-stress combination, you'll breeze right through the last stretch.

1. Bake something.

It's almost over?!

Soccer season has been just so incredible this year. Our team beat all of our Class 1A opponents in 10 games, we've outscored all our opponents an unbelievable 46-9, and I managed to have nine shutouts as goalkeeper. I even sported a bad-ass black eye for two weeks to show off this team's hard work.

Musing of talking pineapples

"If pineapples could talk, I'm sure they'd have many positive things to say about my friend Rosa."

Let them eat cake (in a cup)

I have a very limited amount of cooking skills. My mother likes to point out that I managed to explode instant oatmeal in a microwave. Normally, I have to wait for my brother to bake dessert for me when I crave sweet things.

Summer love

I cannot wait until summer.

Summer means we are done with finals and school and all of that stress. Of course, the biggest stress factor is waking up early, for me at least. It really is difficult for me to pull myself out of bed when I see the sun glaring in my eyes. My natural instinct is to pull my teddy bear over my head to block the light and return to my dreams.

Google: No longer my only search engine

Search engines have been around for a while, and for the most part I have used the same one. Google is great for finding chemical equations, directions, recipes, and just about anything else. However, the Google of three years ago, with the exception of a beta or two, hasn't changed a lot.

My hair disappeared!

My hair used to be long and often unruly.
