CD review: Owl City's latest synthpop sweetness is just what the dentist ordered

Owl City (aka Adam Young) breaks away from the generic in his exquisite new adventure in synthpop, "Ocean Eyes." Singing about everything from love to dental care, he's managed to create a beautiful, upbeat album with very few sticky spots, according to reviewer Katy Metcalf. Check inside to listen to the album yourself.

Following the life of a young werewolf, "Hombre Lobo" displays an almost unimaginable depth and range of emotion layered over beautifully written melodies. Read on for the rest of Katy Metcalf's review.

The Mixtape: "Summer finds" edition

But she did, and to get you pumped up for school she's selected 14 of her favorite tracks from this summer. Hopefully this cheerful mix will help erase any of the dread you might still be feeling. Welcome back!

Paternal spectacular: MGMT's Uni connection

1968 Uni alum David Goldwasser is an accomplished veterinarian. He is also the proud father of two sons, Ben and Jacob. If the last name sounds familiar, that's because Ben Goldwasser is one curly-headed half of the indie-rock duo MGMT. Check inside for more about Uni's connection to one of the most successful bands of 2008.

Photo essay: For the love of music

Amid a frenzied week of class projects and AP exams, Uni students had the chance to relax last Thursday evening with a full hour of music performed by their peers. Eleven student musicians took the stage for Music Club's year-end recital as their classmates, parents, and teachers listened in the South Attic. Jason He was there and brought back these pictures.

Putting the music into Uni's musical

You didn't see them on center stage during "West Side Story," but they went far from unnoticed. Uni's spring production would have been nothing without the musicians who made up the pit orchestra. CD review: The Decemberists, "The Hazards of Love"

Say hello to one of the most original albums of the year — a concept piece about a girl named Margaret who falls in love with the shape-shifting William in a magical forest. In the hands of a lesser band, this could be unbearably precious. But indie/folk darlings The Decemberists are at the top of their game, and the result is pure genius, according to Katy Metcalf.

This Saturday night, juniors Loic Hostetter and Sindha Agha are hosting a concert at the Independent Media Center in Urbana to benefit the victims of the genocide in Darfur. CD review: Lily Allen, "It's Not Me, It's You"

In 2006, singer/songwriter Lily Allen's debut "Alright, Still" hit stores in the United Kingdom, and a slightly dysfunctional star was born. So what's changed with her since then? As Laura Dripps discovers, the answer turns out to be not a whole lot, but that's not always such a bad thing.
