Whether you want something to bring back your childhood memories or a creepy film that guarantees a nightmare, this guide if for you! Gargoyle editors Eleni Yannelis and Katey Metcalf have teamed up to deliver the best Halloween movies. Enjoy!

Eleni's Picks

"The Addams Family"
Rated PG
Released in 1991
Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld

Ah yes, our beloved Wednesday and Morticia Addams. The perfectly twisted yet family-oriented film for Halloween! It's amusingly grim, and it reminds us of the cherished movie from our childhood and our parents of the cherished TV series from their childhood. Watch long-lost Uncle Fester return to his family after being missing for 25 years. Even if Uncle Fester is trying to con his own twin brother, it's still a heart-warming film! My kind of family values …

"Casper"
Rated PG
Released in 1995
Directed by Brad Silberling

Kat (Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in "The Addams Family" mentioned above) and her father (Bill Pullman) have just moved into a haunted mansion. It is inhibited by Casper, along with three other ghosts. Kat and Casper are soon to be good friends, as Casper is "the friendliest ghost you know." I adore Casper. When I was little, I had a big crush on him. So, on Halloween, I'm defiantly curling up on my couch with a blanket and popcorn and watching that ghost again.

"Ringu"
Rated PG
Released in 1998
Directed by Hideo Nakata

"Ringu" is the original Japanese version of "The Ring." After the death of her cousin, Reiko is told stories of a videotape that results in a murder one week after its viewing. At first Reiko thinks this is ridiculous. She changes her mind when her friend dies. Now, Reiko must end this legacy and prevent her own death.

"Hocus Pocus"
Rated PG
Released in 1993
Directed by Kenny Ortega

More than 300 years ago, three witches were tried and killed in Salem. Now, the year is 1993, and it's Halloween. As a joke, some teenagers bring these witches back to life. If only they realized that these witches were evil. These reckless teens have made a mistake.

"Mickey's House of Villains"
Rated NR
Released in 2002
Directed by Jamie Mitchell and Tony Craig

The most popular Disney menaces are back! Mickey Mouse's house is taken by villains who kick out Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. Now the three need to steal the home back and set their lives straight.

Katy's Picks

"The Nightmare Before Christmas"
Rated PG
Released in 1993
Directed by Henry Selick

I love "The Nightmare Before Christmas"! This Tim Burton classic follows the infamous Jack Skellington, pumpkin king of Halloween Town, as he attempts to Halloween-ize Christmas. Aside from being one of the best stop-motion films of all time, it has a beautiful soundtrack (Danny Elfman, no less) and some of the best writing of any movie, ever.

"Edward Scissorhands"
Rated PG
Released in 1990
Directed by Tim Burton

Edward Scissorhands is an unfinished "creation" of a mad scientist, almost human, but with scissors for hands. He lives all alone in a big house overlooking suburbia, until one day when local Avon saleswoman Peggy Boggs comes to explore the mansion. She brings him down to live with her family, but when he falls in love with her daughter Kim, all kinds of trouble start.

"It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"
Rated G
Released in 1966
Directed by Bill Meléndez

"Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch that he thinks is the most sincere. He's gotta pick this one. He's got to. I don't see how a pumpkin patch can be more sincere than this one. You can look around and there's not a sign of hypocrisy. Nothing but sincerity as far as the eye can see!"

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Rated R
Released in 1975
Directed by Jim Sharman

From the era of the great midnight movies, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is a cult classic highly reminiscent of "Frankenstein," following young lovers Brad and Janet through the strange world of Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his creation, Rocky Horror. Let's do the Time Warp!

"The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad"
Rated G
Released in 1949
Directed by Jack Kinney, Clyde Geronimi, James Algar

This two-part Disney classic begins with the story of J. Thaddeus Toad, Esq., a toad hell-bent on excitement in the form of motorcars, gypsy carts, and all manner of other moving things. The first part, based on "The Wind in the Willows," follows Mr. Toad as he is soon arrested for stealing a car... and prison is no good place for a toad. The second part, based on "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," introduces us to Ichabod, a young schoolmaster. He tells the story of the Headless Horseman to his students, hoping to give them a fright on Halloween. But a lonely walk home turns into a frightfest for him as well, when he contemplates the possibility of encountering the ghost …
