Video: Taking a bite out of Fat Sandwich

IT'S A SATURDAY night, and you're trying to recover from a long, stressful week of taking tests and writing papers. What could be better than a visit to Fat Sandwich (502 E. John St., Champaign), where fine cuisine means anything from a bacon cheeseburger on glazed donut buns to a sandwich of chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, fries, ham, egg, mayo, and ketchup?
Or how about a Fat Mess? That would be mozzarella sticks, jalapeno poppers, fried mushroooms, mac 'n' cheese bites, pizza bites, fries, ranch, and BBQ on an eight-inch roll.
And did we mention the Big Fat Ugly?
You get the point. If you have a colossal craving, then Fat Sandwich is your place. The shop has been operating in Campustown for about a year. The franchise began in Norman, Okla., in 2007, and a third branch is located in Madison, Wis.
We wanted to get a firsthand look at these mighty sandwiches and the clientele who partake of them. So video camera in hand, we ventured out one recent Saturday night. Here's what we found …
