It's time for the third annual Pygmalion Music Festival! A&E senior editor Sindha Agha has researched every all-ages concert that Pygmalion has to offer this year and created this schedule highlighting what she believes will be the best shows of 2009's festival. While all she recommends all of the concerts listed below, she also gave them a rating out of four stars. Be sure to check them out! THURSDAY, SEPT. 17

Morgan Orion & The Constellations
6 p.m., Red Herring, 1209 W. Oregon St., Urbana
For fans of: Kimya Dawson, Belle & Sebastian
There’s nothing like some good old local charm. Hailing from Urbana, Morgan Orion is known for his backyard concerts, free spirit, and friendly charm. His music is a blend of indie and folk, with a feel-good hue and DIY spin to it. And what’s better than our very own vegetarian restaurant, the Red Herring, for the location?

Liz Janes
6:40 p.m., Krannert Art Museum, 500 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign
For fans of: Rachael Yamagata, Feist
Another talented local! So Champaign-Urbana can produce more than just top-notch corn and soybeans … That’s a relief. Liz Janes makes yet some more charming acoustic music. On top of that, Krannert Art Museum might be my favorite concert location in town.

Brooke Waggoner
7:20 p.m., Krannert Art Museum, 500 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign
For fans of: Bat for Lashes, Fever Ray
Even if you don’t go to Liz Janes, be sure to check out Brooke Waggoner. This lady, coming all the way from Nashville, has an absolutely gorgeous voice. Waggoner makes bold and whimsical indie pop. She’s an act not to miss.

Denison Witmer
8 p.m., Krannert Art Museum, 500 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign
For fans of: Sufjan Stevens, Jose Gonzalez
Denison Witmer is, yes, another folk artist. He’s truly remarkable, with a smoky voice and drowsy, moody songs. I’m not sure why he’s not yet the next big thing, but considering he’s already collaborated with indie folk deity Sufjan Stevens, he must be headed in that direction.

My Brightest Diamond
8:45 p.m., Krannert Art Museum, 500 E. Peabody Drive, Champaign
For fans of: Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, The National, St. Vincent
What an honor it is to have My Brightest Diamond playing in our very own Krannert Art Museum. Shara Worden is the main brain behind My Brightest Diamond, and over the years she’s gained great praise and circulation for her music, making her part of the very best of indie music.

Starf****r
9:30 p.m., Courtyard Café, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana
For fans of: Of Montreal, Dan Deacon, MGMT.
This energetic electro-pop band are sure to put on a fun show. Their music is incredibly danceable and upbeat, and they’ve performed with the likes of Bloc Party and Sonic Youth. Courtyard Café’s only an all right location, but I’ll disregard this fact because this show is bound to be one of the best under-18 concerts Pygmalion has to offer.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 18

You & Yourn
6:30 p.m., Channing Murray, 1209 W. Oregon St., Urbana
For fans of: Iron and Wine, Elliott Smith
I’ve never heard of this local folk duo before, but I’m incredibly excited to see them at Pygmalion. It turns out they’ve both got killer voices, and they’re a lot like Iron and Wine, whom I adore.

Low
9 p.m., Channing Murray, 1209 W. Oregon St., Urbana
For fans of: Placebo, TV on the Radio
It’s a little hard for me to describe Low, but they’ve been a favorite band of mine for a few years now since I heard their song “Breaker.” I guess a good label for them is “alternative,” which just tells you that they make unique music, more or less unlike anything I’ve ever heard. Be sure not to miss them!

Pet Lions
7:30 p.m., Courtyard Café, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana
For fans of: The Strokes, Apples in Stereo, Phoenix
Pet Lions, a four-person band from Chicago, play indie pop rock. It’s tasteful stuff, definitely radio material. They should put on an entertaining and lively show.

Solid Gold
9:30 p.m., Courtyard Café, 1401 W. Green St., Urbana
For fans of: Cut Copy, The Twelves, Passion Pit
This experimental electronic music is ever so popular at the moment, with Cut Copy and Passion Pit conquering the indie music scene. Solid Gold’s music is psychedelic with a gauzy, dreamy sort of sound. This show, like Starf****r’s, should be good for all the avid dancers out there.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 19

The Books
7:30 p.m., Krannert Center, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana
For fans of: Animal Collective, Arcade Fire
I’m interested to see what this extremely experimental band will come up with for a live show. With the venue of Krannert, I’m sure they’ll have lots of freedom for special effects (maybe projections, crazy lighting design?). Who knows, but I’m sure The Books, who make fantastical and theatrical music, will come up with a feast for the eyes.

Iron and Wine
8:45 p.m., Krannert Center, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana
For fans of: Jose Gonzalez, Andrew Bird, Cat Power
For anyone who read my Summer Mixtape, you will know that I love Iron and Wine (aka Sam Beam) with a passion. He creates incredible folk music, has an amazing voice, and is certainly one of the great artists of our time. He’s Pygmalion’s biggest act this year and the show to see if you’re considering any of these.

Ra Ra Riot
11 p.m., Krannert Center, 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana
For fans of: Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, The Virgins
You wouldn’t expect that this cheerful band lost its drummer to the Atlantic shortly after the release of their exquisite EP, "The Rhumb Line." Despite this extreme misfortune, Ra Ra Riot has experienced great success over the past year. Their music has the catchiness and polished feel of pop without being generic in the least.
