Foreign Music

Lately, I have been listening to foreign music, more so than usual. By "foreign" I mean music made by non-Americans, typically with lyrics that aren't in English. While I don't think the distinction between "American" and "foreign music" makes sense per se, a musician's choice of repertoire, language of expression, popularity, and many other factors are definitely culturally influenced or based.

Blog: Life could use a speed limit

I often feel frazzled whenever I turn on the evening news and am bombarded by dozens of different stories at once. The broadcasters themselves switch quickly from topic to topic, the ticker at the bottom of the screen is constantly flashing headlines within seconds of each other, and sometimes there's even a bar feeding you a steady stream of updates on what people are "tweeting" about.

Blog: The US gets its gas from...

Canada. Yep, Canada.

Are you confused? I was too. I was sitting calmly in the second row of Mr. Butler's classroom. But inside my mind was reeling.

Blog: A trip to the movie theater

Last weekend, I went to see "The Muppets" with my mother, brother, and my friend, Kaila Simpson. I was thoroughly excited to see this movie, mostly because I adore the Muppets. I have loved the Muppets ever since I was little, and through the years my adoration has not changed. I can say the same for my family and Kaila; they were bouncing up and down with excitement, literally.

Blog: LoL

This year, a new game has taken over every moment of my free time. The game is called League of Legends, abbreviated LoL. For nigh on two months, I have been losing tremendous amounts of sleep, zoning into League of Legends for hours on end, sometimes sleeping at 5 a.m. during Thanksgiving break.

Blog: Everything awful about "Jack and Jill" that I didn't have time to criticize.

That's right, we're back to this movie again. I realized that the review I recently wrote did not properly describe the horrors my friends and I endured at the hands of this movie. I stand by my earlier statement that this is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, but I felt that in order to make a statement like that I would need to present my audience with proper evidence.

Blog: Holiday Patience

Tomorrow is December first, meaning that for the next 25 days, everything is going to be in shades of red and green, and carols will be blasting from every store door in preparation for the long-awaited holiday, Christmas.

Blog: The optimal "Star Wars" viewing experience

Some of the movies at the top of my movie bucket list are those in the "Star Wars" series, and recently I decided to get to work watching those. But I had a big dilemma: what order do I watch them in?

Blog: My night in the spotlight

Blank stare. Shuffle, shuffle. Twitch. Shuffle, shuffle. Blank stare.

I crossed the stage last night, staring and shuffling, as a zombie in Uni's fall play, "Night of the Living Dead."

My skin was whitened, my eyes were ringed in black, and black goop covered my mouth and chin. I was a sight, or so my mother said when I got home.

Blog: The uncommon application?

College deadlines are inching closer and applications have become a staple of the nightly senior workload. But with all the answering and re-answering of questions, essay topics blending together, and last-minute testing decisions, one would hope that the Common Application would make things simpler.

Blog: To date or not to date? The age old question

Some students have a great time with their dates at Uni dances, but other students feel left out when they don't have a date.

Blog: Quoting Uni

I'm racking my brain, thinking myself back to that third row desk in subbie science. What were those unforgettable phrases I'm now forgetting? What was it that cracked me up for days in U.S. History?

You know what I'm talking about, of course. I'm working on my senior quote section for the yearbook.

Blog: 272 days and counting!

October is just around the corner, which means that I only have 3 more months of poetry left to write. I calculated the number of days left, and I just have to come up with 93 more poems and then my year long project will be complete.

Blog: Four movies that I don't want to admit I'm going to see

As excited as I am for legitimately good upcoming movies like "The Rum Diary" and "Anonymous", there are more than a few films that I'm less eager to tell people about. I'm writing this blog as a way of calling out reviewers like myself that pretend that they only watch the classiest of classy movies.

Blog: Just one more word, please!

I admit it--I've never been a particularly concise person. I like to talk and, consequently, talk very much. Sometimes I talk about interesting things, oftentimes about uninteresting things, but always about something; just ask anyone who knows me, and they can surely testify.
