Column: Lessons of the Troy Davis case

Troy Davis was convicted of murdering a white police officer in Georgia in 1989. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 1991, despite the fact there was no forensic evidence implicating him in the murder and all but two of the witnesses who testified against him recanted their testimony, many saying they were coerced by the police. However, Davis's case is not that simple, and there are many holes in his claims. Whether or not Davis was innocent, his case serves as a reminder of capital punishment's illegitimacy.
