The Uni chess team began the new year with impressive victories, defeating Charleston and winning the annual Illini Classic Tournament for the fourth time in a row. The team is now intent on preparing for the IHSA state tournament, which is just a month away.

It was a tale of two halves at Kenney Gym as Uni lost to Normal Calvary Baptist by 26 Tuesday night. The Illineks led 24-18 at halftime, but Grant Touma and the Crusaders outscored Uni 49-17 in the second half en route to a victory. Junior Dan Lilly led Uni with 18 points. The Illineks next play on Friday vs. DeLand Weldon at Kenney Gym.

Originally published in France under the title "La Salle de bain," Jean-Philippe Toussaint's 1985 debut novel "The Bathroom" finally came out in English two months ago thanks to local publishing house Dalkey Archive Press. About an obsessive academic, "The Bathroom" has a unique style, like all of Toussaint's books, that would appeal to Uni students.
