Subfreshmen prepare to participate in IJAS science fair

Rather than working on a long research paper during the spring semester as past subfreshmen have done, this year's subfreshmen will be participating in a science fair held by the Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS).

The State of the Uni: A look at Uni's financial standing

Today President Obama will be giving an update to the entire nation about the state of our country. The Gargoyle would like to take a cue from him and present to you a series on the state of our school. In this first edition, we delve into Uni's budget and finances.

Boys basketball: Judah survives Uni in close contest

Judah defeated Uni 51-48 in a tightly contested contest Friday at Judah. Uni trailed most of the game, but made a late fourth-quarter run before falling short. The JV also lost.

Spirit Week: Reinstated assembly to be held Jan. 27

A spirit week assembly will take place on Friday, Jan. 27, despite rumors that it would be cancelled this year.

Gargoyle movie heroes: Round 1

Gargoyle Bracketology is back again for more voting and debate. Last time we focused on the most infamous of movie villains, so it's about time we tackled the more virtuous of film characters. We've changed the criteria this time around. Instead of a hypothetical battle to the death, this is simply a debate over which character is objectively a better hero. A death-match simply wouldn't be appropriate for such morally upstanding individuals. So review your options, cast your vote, and watch the results unfold!

Though there has not been much snow this winter, a Snowflake Sensation happened on Saturday, January 21 at the Winter Formal. Hosted by the sophomore class, this year's Winter Formal had the theme of Snowflake Sensation. The night was fun for all, and the Gargoyle has provided pictures of the night for your viewing pleasure.

"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum": Cast list announced

On Jan. 17 and 18, Uni students auditioned for roles in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." The cast list for the spring musical was announced Friday.

Spirit Week '12 preview: Pull out your Uni pride

Spirit Week, held annually as a week-long event to boost the school's spirit and encourage students to come to games and support their peers, will be held this year during the week of Jan. 23-27. This year there will be some changes to the standard Spirit Week; check inside for details.

Annual Poetry Out Loud competition to begin soon

The annual Poetry Out Loud competition will take place during Uni Period on Feb. 13. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition in which students bring poetry to stage. The winner from Uni's school wide competition will advance to the regional level.

Art Theater in first stages of becoming co-op

The Art Theater in downtown Champaign has begun a cooperative that will raise funds to buy a necessary piece of equipment and keep the Art in business. Community members can buy up to nine shares for $65 apiece.
