From running on the weekends to waking up early to get a few extra miles in, the girls cross country team has pushed themselves to improve their times and create a strong team that will be able to compete against other schools this fall. Gargoyle reporter Will Fernandez gives the scoop on this young and talented Illinek team.

On Aug. 18 students filed into Uni Gym for the Annual Welcome Back Assembly. Dr. Walkington and Sue Kovacs greeted the students and prepped them for a whole new year at Uni High. Gargoyle photographer Kahlilah Cooke was there to capture all of the first day feelings.

Uni High's annual kick off dance, the Howdy Hop, took place on Friday, the 20th of August. Admission was free and the event was DJ-ed by senior Will Fernandez.The Gargoyle staff snapped these photos so anyone who missed the Howdy Hop can see.

Despite losing a host of seniors to graduation, the Illineks are hoping to take advantage of fresh potential in becoming state qualifiers for a third-straight year. The season begins Tuesday with the Kickapoo Kickoff Classic.

The annual Urbana Sweet Corn Festival will take place Friday, August 27th and Saturday the 28th in downtown Urbana. With multiple vendors, great music, and other activities for people of all ages, Gargoyle reporter Katy Metcalf gives you a quick preview of this fun festival.

With the first boys' soccer game taking place this afternoon, expectations for the 2010 season are high. With a good deal returning players and a few newcomers, this predominantly junior and sophomore team is read to step up to the plate in the absence of some key Class of 2010 graduates.
